Poker is defined in the dictionary as “a game played with cards in which people try to win money from each other”. There are a lot of variations of poker but the basics are all the same. In poker you are trying to win money that is placed in the pot during multiple betting rounds. Or you can win by getting others to lay down (folding) there hands and thus giving you the pot by default.

In the beginning most poker players find it hard to fold hands. Usually this is accompanied by a slogan like: “You got to be in it to win it”. Which if you think of it is probably invented by an overeager casino manager trying to separate more gamblers from there money.

 For most of us winning by “surrendering” feels unnatural. And we prefer action over inaction. Players new to poker usually feel that they are giving up by folding.

What makes poker fun in my opinion that it is a combination of many elements. Separated they may be interesting but combined they are dynamite. One of elements is chance, as in many casino games or board games.

In Poker even when you play right you can lose and even if you make a huge mistake you can still win in the short run. By playing right you will win in the long run, unfortunately the moment you are in is never the short run. And in the beginning for most players that is difficult to deal with. Some get better at it over time, but a lot of players don’t get much better at it.
